Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in David Fincher’s new Netflix film

Brad Pitt coming back as Cliff Booth was not on our bingo cards, so if you see people absolutely losing it over this, then don’t judge them. And if you are one of us, even better. Netflix confirmed that David Fincher’s new film is going to bring Pitt back as the stuntman everybody got obsessed with after Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Remember that? Fans went feral.

Coming back to this Brad Pitt starrer, it is getting a two-week IMAX release worldwide starting November 25th before it releases on Netflix on December 23rd, which basically tells you Netflix knows they’ve got a massive one on their hands here. And a good game because look at the names involved. You’ve got David Fincher directing, Quentin Tarantino writing the screenplay, and Brad Pitt back in one of his most loved roles. That’s not even a film anymore; that’s basically catnip for cinema people.

Pitt first played Cliff Booth back in Tarantino’s 2019 Hollywood film, and somehow the fellow became everybody’s favourite character, even though half the time he was just standing there being cool and mysterious.

This new film jumps forward to 1977 Hollywood, so the vibe is meant to be completely different this time around. And listen, if there is one thing Fincher knows how to do, it is make everything feel dead tense and grim. Seventies Hollywood was messy as hell and all, so it actually sounds perfect for him. You can already picture everybody smoking cigarettes while looking deeply traumatised.

The cast is another reason to watch this movie. This time around, we have Elizabeth Debicki, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Scott Caan, and Peter Weller. All in all, loads of big names have signed on already. Plus, Fincher has brought back loads of his usual crew behind the scenes, too, like cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt and editor Kirk Baxter. Basically, everybody involved knows exactly what sort of film they are making, and you can tell already this is going to have that proper polished Fincher look.

What’s got people properly intrigued, though, is the Tarantino part of it all. Because technically, this is one of his characters being directed by another filmmaker, which he doesn’t really do. So now everybody is dead curious about how much this is going to feel like a Tarantino film versus a Fincher one. Honestly? We are thinking a bit of both, which sounds amazing.

There is still no trailer yet, and Netflix hasn’t confirmed the official title either, but people are already fully prepared for this regardless. And can you blame them? Brad Pitt back as Cliff Booth in a gritty seventies Hollywood thriller and getting directed by David Fincher sounds absolutely unbelievable.
