‘Black Mirror’ creator Charlie Brooker announces new crime series on Netflix
Charlie Brooker has his next steps planned for Netflix. No, it’s not Black Mirror.
Although it’s hard to detach him from the league of the award-winning sci-fi anthology series, Brooker is eyeing something fresh for his next project on Netflix, a new crime series.
According to Tudum, the Emmy-winning writer and producer is bringing a four-part detective series to Netflix. The production is already underway. However, the project remains untitled as of now.
Set somewhere between the fictional city of Bleakford and the streets of London, the untitled series revolves around a tortured sleuth who is on a quest to catch a notorious serial killer red-handed before they run dry of victims. While he described the series as a “profoundly serious” crime thriller, Netflix chimes in, teasing that it’s the first indicator that Brooker is on to something hilariously wicked.
The company has already pulled back the curtain on the actors fronting the upcoming crime series. Brooker has roped in a trio of British A-listers, including the House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine, Barbarian’s Georgina Campbell and Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey.
Brooker couldn’t hold back his funny bones during the press release. In a statement to Tudum, he said,” I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”
While he needn’t go that far, considering his name is enough to have the audience sold, his announcement surely elevates the intrigue. Although true to tradition, the release date remains tightly guarded, Brooker did promise a lot of “blood and frowning” when the series arrives on Netflix.
Created and co-written by Brooker, Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier, and Joel Morris are all co-writers, with additional scripting by Victoria Asare Archer. Richard Webb is producing, with Mark Kinsella co-executive producing, the Netflix series. Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones also serve as executive producers.
