Bela Bajaria addresses report of Netflix dissociating from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

During the Next on Netflix presentation of the forthcoming slate of high-profile projects on Wednesday, chief content officer Bela Bajaria set the record straight regarding a report that the platform has been distancing itself from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

“I would say don’t believe whatever you read,” she said about a recent Variety report alleging Netflix “falling out” with the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex.

“Maybe we should all do a little fact-checking. But here’s the thing: we still have a relationship with them, we have movies in development with them, we have an amazing doc with them, they have things in development on the TV and film side” (via The Hollywood Reporter)

Bajaria explained, “Deals come and go all the time and… we don’t renew so many deals, and those don’t get as much press for obvious reasons. I guess. So, there’s no juicy story there.” A Netflix spokesperson previously responded to the tabloid piece, calling it “absolutely inaccurate” that Netflix is no longer interested in the pair or their Archewell Productions.

Although Markle, Prince Harry, and Netflix go way back, a few moves on the streamer’s part may have suggested potential friction in the partnership, including the latest March 6th announcement.

Earlier this month, the service announced it was exiting As Ever, Markle’s lifestyle brand. Meanwhile, in August 2025, Netflix downgraded their overall deal to a first-look deal following the productions of Harry & Meghan, Polo, and the most recent, With Love, Meghan.

The Variety feature followed the recent story about As Ever and Netflix, claiming that the streamer has allegedly grown “fed up” with the subpar track record of Markle and Prince Harry’s shows and their ways of communication. According to the Variety report, citing a Netflix insider, “The mood in the building is ‘we’re done.’”

In addition to these claims, the tabloid piece reported that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who happens to be a neighbour of the Duke and the Duchess in Montecito, had grown tired of the couple, with two sources alleging that Sarandos wouldn’t engage in a call with Markle without a lawyer present. That said, it was uncertain whether it was actually in jest.

While Bajaria’s clarification undoubtedly helps, it remains to be seen how the existing partnership will be in the days to come. Nevertheless, for the fans of the Duke and the Duchess, this should be welcome news amidst the heated speculation.
