‘Back In Action’ flies to the top of Netflix chart

January brings with it a host of new Netflix releases, and Back in Action, the streaming giant’s latest original offering tops the chart during the first month of the new year.

Back in Action is a spy comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx. It’s a big milestone for both actors, as it marks the first movie of any kind Diaz has been in for over a decade since she made Annie with Foxx in 2014.

The film was directed by Seth Gordon, who had previously spoken about where the original idea came from. “It really started with me just riffing on the kernel of an idea that came to me in the moment,” he said, “Which was, ‘What would it be like for Jason Bourne if he had kids? Would he have to retire?’ And [Producer Beau Bauman] said, ‘That’s a movie’.”

Back In Action is a wholesome story at heart that sees two spies try to connect with their kids during an age when connecting with your children is more difficult than ever. “All Emily wants to be is a great mom,” said Diaz, discussing the role, “All she wants is to give her children the life she didn’t have. And for her, that was to be able to put her children before her profession.”

British comic actor Jamie Demetriou plays Nigel in the blockbuster. He was hand-picked for the role and looks back fondly on his time on set filming with such big Hollywood names. He spoke to Far Out in an exclusive interview

“It was incredible working with those people and even just for the stories alone that you got from them. I spent a lot of time with Glenn [Close] as I play her boyfriend in it, a lot of intimate time, and, the wealth of knowledge and wisdom in the industry is invaluable,” he said, “Also, just being around that level of talent, seeing Jamie after cut just head straight over to the piano and perform something that I would probably sell something of mine to be able to afford tickets for didn’t feel like work.”

Back In Action is streaming now.
