‘Baby Reindeer’ star Nava Mau lands new Netflix project
Having landed her breakthrough role on one of the most popular shows in Netflix history, Baby Reindeer star Nava Mau has decided to stay in business with the streaming service by signing on to another programme.
Fresh from an Emmy nomination for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie’ after playing Teri in Richard Gadd’s searing semi-autobiographical miniseries, the actor is heading back into psychological territory by boarding the final season of a Netflix smash hit.
Although it originated as a Lifetime original show with its first season, You became a sensation when Netflix secured the distribution rights and beamed it into the homes and onto the devices of millions of subscribers around the world. From the second season onwards, the series has been an in-house original, becoming one of the streamer’s flagship productions along the way.
Following Penn Badgley’s obsessive serial killer Joe Goldberg, each new season of You has found the cold-blooded and calculating murderer discovering a new object of affection, going out of his way to eliminate anyone he sees as a threat to achieve his own twisted idealisation of what love is supposed to be.
Fortunately, Mau won’t be on the receiving end of his advances, but will instead attempt to track him down after being cast as police detective Marquez. Joe hasn’t been caught as of yet, but with the fifth run of You already confirmed to be its last, maybe she’ll be the one to finally bring him to justice.
The fourth season ended with Joe having once again gotten away with a killing spree in London, closing out with the murderer painting himself as the victim of Victoria Pedretti’s equally unhinged spouse Love Quinn after relocating back to New York City with Charlotte Ritchie’s Kate Galvin.
Mau was a revelation in Baby Reindeer, and while the after-effects caused by the series continue to linger as potential legal action hovers overhead, the careers of the principal cast members were all given a massive boost when the seven-episode story became one of Netflix’s top ten most-watched English-language original shows of all time.
Playing a key role in the final run of another one of the streamer’s most talked-about titles will elevate Mau’s star even further, and while there are no guarantees Joe is going to end up behind bars by the time the finale airs, it can’t be ruled out that she’ll be the one to put him there if he does.
