Another espionage thriller to watch on Netflix if you loved ‘Unfamiliar’
Every time Netflix drops a show that’s too good to be true, the audience follows up, seeking recommendations to fill in the blanks of “More Like This.” Likewise, Unfamiliar’s arrival on Netflix has been no exception, as is evident from the rise of fan-driven manifestos demanding more espionage thrillers to satisfy the appetite.
As a result, we’re here to give you just what you want, which is another espionage thriller to watch on Netflix if you loved Unfamiliar: The Night Agent.
For those unaware, Netflix recently released an adrenaline-fueled spy thriller, Unfamiliar, which tells the story of married couple Simon and Meret Schafer, whose picture-perfect life comes crashing down when their former lives as undercover agents come into light.
It all begins when the pair is busy celebrating their daughter, Nina’s 16th birthday back home, when they receive a call from a stranger seeking help and assistance, claiming he has been injured and requires immediate assistance. If it were someone else, the request would undoubtedly raise eyebrows. However, for the Schafers, it’s not so unusual, given that they run a safe house in Berlin.
But something still doesn’t sit right with them as they conclude that the man’s injuries are self-inflicted. Although he refuses to identify himself, the Schafers know that he means trouble when he hints at a disastrous mission from 16 years ago, involving a high-ranking Russian military intelligence officer, Josef Koleev, who also happens to be the man who has sent the stranger to their safe house.
Now, those who are already done with Unfamiliar are understandably caught in the spell of spy thrillers. And the good news is: The Night Agent season three is returning in two days, on February 19th, to give you an additional dose of the thrills you seek.
Created by Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent stars Gabriel Basso as FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who works in the White House basement, overseeing an emergency line for covert spies. In the first season, viewers meet a frustrated Sutherland, who’s just assigned to the “Night Action” desk where the phone never really rings. But when it does, on the other end is Rose Larkin, a tech CEO, desperately seeking assistance after discovering her aunt and uncle, who were secret Night Agents, were murdered.
The second season sees Peter blossoming into a full-fledged Night Agent who tries to prevent a terror attack on the UN. Meanwhile, in the third season of The Night Agent, Peter is about to uncover a global conspiracy spanning Istanbul, Mexico City, New York, and Washington, among others, raising the stakes now more than ever.
Although the two-day wait can feel like forever for existing fans, for those new on the block, the first two seasons of The Night Agent are currently streaming on Netflix; make it count.
