Angela Bassett joins Robert De Niro for Netflix’s ‘Zero Day’

It was announced recently that Robert De Niro, following a successful career predominantly in film, will be heading up his first-ever lead TV role in the upcoming Netflix drama Zero Day. The A-list cast accompanying him in the series continues to grow.

Also confirmed for the limited series are Angela Bassett, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, McKinley Belcher III and Bill Camp. Guest roles from Clark Gregg, Gaby Hoffmann and Mark Ivanir have also been confirmed.

Details surrounding the series are limited, but a brief plot outline has been released. Zero Day will see Dr Niro play the role of George Mullen, a former president with a complicated past who comes out of retirement to head a commission of people looking into a cyber attack.

Angela Bassett, who is a fan of Mullen and is responsible for appointing him to head up the commission, plays the role of the current president. Other actors will play investigators, news hosts and politicians, but how they are involved in the series remains unknown.

Newman and Oppenheim are writing the series, with Schmidt, De Niro, and Jonathan Glickman signed on as executive producers and Lesli Linka Glatter, the director. The series has begun filming in New York.

It’s exciting to see De Niro head up his first leading TV role, and with such a stellar cast confirmed to support him, Zero Day has the potential to be something special.

The series’ release date is still unknown, but with filming currently taking place, we hope it will be sometime next year.
