Netflix is gearing up to be the ultimate destination for superhero movie enthusiasts, and the December 2023 lineup promises to be nothing short of spectacular. But what’s even better is that, earlier, Netflix had announced eight DC films will be heading to the platform, and now there are 12 that are coming this December.
With the recent success of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on the streaming platform, it was clear that audiences have an insatiable appetite for superhero films. The superhero/Marvel fatigue might be real for those who have been following it all over the past decade, but there is still a potential new audience base to tap into via streaming.
Now, Netflix is set to satisfy that hunger further by adding a slew of DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films to its library.
Earlier this month, Netflix delighted fans by announcing that a significant selection of DC films would be gracing their screens on December 1st. These initial titles include Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Wonder Woman: 1984, and The Suicide Squad. The addition of these films alone would have been reason enough for fans to celebrate, but there’s more.
In addition to the films already announced, the DCEU lineup on Netflix will also feature the 2022 blockbuster hit, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Joining the Dark Knight are Shazam!, Black Adam, and DC’s League of Super-Pets. This expanded roster of DCEU titles ensures that Netflix subscribers will have access to a treasure trove of superhero content, providing entertainment for both new and seasoned fans of the DC universe.
The inclusion of these films on Netflix is part of a broader trend where Warner Bros. Discovery has been licensing its flagship titles to various streaming services. A bunch of hit HBO shows have also landed on Netflix in the last couple of months for the first time.
