Agent Kyle Turner is headed to Hawaii in ‘UNTAMED’ season two
If it weren’t for Netflix’s small-town mysteries, we probably wouldn’t have met Eric Bana’s Investigative Services Branch agent character Kyle Turner in UNTAMED season one. But now that we have, it’s time to warm up for Kyle’s return in the second season, which is officially headed to Hawaii.
The first season of UNTAMED had Kyle Turner investigating the tragic death of a young girl in the wilds of Yosemite National Park.
In the show’s second season, Kyle finds himself in Hawaii as he’s summoned to investigate yet another mysterious death in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, where the volatile, vulnerable landscape shows its untamed genes.
“We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite,” UNTAMED co-creators and executive producers Mark L Smith and Elle Smith tell Tudum. “Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity.”
“Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating [about] getting to choose a new park,” Elle Smith adds. Meanwhile, Mark L Smith spoke of Bana’s return as Kyle Turner, saying, “We started this so long ago with him. To continue the journey and also to use what we learned in the first season – the things that we wanted to do characterwise and things that Eric discovered and helped us discover – we’re incredibly excited.”
According to Tudum, the audience will meet Turner after he visits many other national parks, meaning Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park isn’t the first park he visited since Yosemite. The second season will take place a year and a half after he left Yosemite. “He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy. He’s been taking on a lot of cases,” Mark L Smith explains.
If the first season of UNTAMED taught us anything, it’s that the park will always be more than just a location in the Netflix series. For the co-creators, the goal has always been to make the park their “main character,” which is “sort of alive.” So, with season two, they want to maintain that DNA. “Whichever park we choose will be a character, and it will play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind,” Elle Smith tells.
For those curious about Kyle’s state of mind in UNTAMED season two, well, he’s still in recovery from the death of his son years before season one started. However, by leaving Yosemite, at least, he has taken the first step towards healing. “There was the sadness and grief and all of that that lived in the first season. We’re trying to really make sure that we dig down and focus on the park matching Turner in a way,” Mark L Smith says.
UNTAMED season two is currently in production in Hawaii. But for the rest of the details? Do stay tuned for more updates!
