‘Adolescence’ becomes the second most popular English-language Netflix series of all time

What makes Netflix stand out in the rat race of streamers? Thinking out of the box. While Netflix has done it in the past, breaking records while navigating the streaming storm, the OTT platform recently did the impossible again, this time with Adolescence. Despite the lack of an all-star cast, Netflix’s Adolescence just rewrote streaming history, leaving one of the cult favourites, Stranger Things, behind on the streamer’s leading charts.

Adolescence is officially Netflix’s second most popular English-language series of all time. The four-episode limited series recently outstripped Stranger Things season four in its celebratory position after earning 141.2million views since its release on March 13th, 2025, 80 days ago. Stranger Things season four earned 104.7m views in 2022.

Wednesday is crowned at the summit with 252million views in the 91-day premiere window. Considering Adolescence still has ten days to go before the 91-day window wraps up, the current figure is far from the final statistics. The Netflix series is expected to rack up more views in the days to come, meaning Wednesday should definitely watch out.

Stranger Things has a chance at reclamation with its fifth and final season, to be released from November through the New Year in three parts. The date announcement was unveiled during the TUDUM Live Event, held on May 31st, 2025. However, for now, the ball is in Adolescence’s court.

That said, Stranger Things has a chance at reclamation with its fifth and final season, to be released from November through the New Year in three parts. At the Tudum Live Event held on May 31st, 2025, the Hawkins gang, including Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp, unveiled the much-anticipated date announcement for the final season of Stranger Things. But for now, the ball is in Adolescence’s court.

For those uninitiated with the British psychological crime drama series, Adolescence tells the story of a 13-year-old school-goer, Jamie Miller, arrested on charges of stabbing a girl in his school. The Netflix limited series was filmed in one continuous take. Plan B Entertainment is reportedly in talks for a second season with Netflix, reported by Deadline on April 9th, 2025.

Simultaneously, Netflix revealed the weekly ‘Top Ten’ from May 26th to June 1st, 2025, with Sirens: Limited Series taking the top spot with 18.9million views. Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders is next with 11.9m views, followed by Dept Q on the third with 6m views.

Movie-wise, the Netflix weekly chart is led by Fear Street: Prom Queen with 8.5million views, followed by The Wild Robot and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on the second and third rankings with 5.8m views.
