Actor Jahmil French, best known for playing Dave Turner on Degrassi: The Next Generation, has passed away aged 29.
The tragic news was confirmed by French’s friend and Soundtrack co-star Chisme Chica, who took to Twitter to announce, “I can confirm my good friend, co-worker, and all around inspiration, Jahmil French, passed away yesterday. Only posting because I see the story getting out there. I will have more to say about him later. Right now we’re all just processing this devastating news.”
Fellow co-stars Christina Milian, Melinda Shankar, and Annie Clark also joined the tributes on social media pouring in from fans, friends and colleagues alike.
Degrassi: The Next Generation was a large part of many people’s childhoods and the star will be sorely missed.
Jahmil French’s representative shared the following, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of a dear friend and client Jahmil French.”
Later adding, “He will be remembered by many for his passion for the arts, his commitment to his craft, and his vibrant personality. I ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”
Jahmil most recently starred in Netflix series Soundtrack and has not featured in a screen acting role since the show ended in 2019.
