A nine-time Grammy winner is set to score Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’

Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia adaptation is slowly coming to life. As per recent reports, Netflix has roped in a nine-time Grammy winner, Mark Ronson, to score the highly anticipated film based on CS Lewis’s novel series.

According to an exclusive Variety report, citing sources, Ronson, best known for producing hits like ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Shallow,’ is currently working on the music for Gerwig’s fantasy adventure film, The Magician’s Nephew, which adapts the sixth novel in Lewis’s super-popular book series.

For those unaware, the Oscar-winner also teamed up with Gerwig for Barbie’s score, following Alexandre Desplat’s exit from the project. From the reports flying in the air, Meryl Streep is expected to helm this long-awaited Netflix adaptation, who, coincidentally, is Ronson’s mother-in-law.

The British-American DJ and music producer married Streep’s daughter, Grace Gummer, in 2021. Also expected to appear alongside the Devil Wears Prada star is the former 007, Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey from Sex Education, and Carey Mulligan from Maestro.

The Magician’s Nephew will be the prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, focusing on the formation of Narnia by Aslan the lion. Streep will voice Aslan in the film. The upcoming movie is supposed to be screened in IMAX starting Thanksgiving Day in 2026, for a two-week window before hitting Netflix shelves on Christmas.

Ronson previously musically executive-produced Barbie. He co-wrote the score with Andrew Wyatt, resulting in multiple Golden Globe, Grammy, and Oscar nominations. But his work on The Magician’s Nephew comes amidst the release of his own memoir, Night People: How to Be a DJ in ‘90s New York City. The memoir was released on September 16th, recounting his days as a DJ in the New York City night scene and revisiting his rise within the industry.

While his recent team-up with Gerwig marks a star-studded reunion, with Ronson set to score Narnia, it’s clear that the movie is on the move. Sure, it isn’t releasing sometime this year. But rest assured, the stepping stones are enough proof that something big is coming the audience’s way from Netflix. All they have to do is wait for the cinematic fireworks next year.
