Is ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ going to have a second season?

The BBC Three television series A Good Girl’s Girl to Murder, based on the Holly Jackson novel of the same name and directed by Dolly Wells, has been climbing up the charts on Netflix, proving to be popular with the subscribers of the streaming service.

The show stars Wednesday’s Emma Myers and arrived on Netflix at the end of July. Despite the popularity of the first season, a second round of episodes has not yet been confirmed, although whether they will be is not entirely down to Netflix’s choosing.

After all, Netflix did not develop the series alone. In fact, it was only in April this year that the streaming service decided to take the series on following its premiere on BBC Three. The BBC are therefore the ultimate owners of the show and Netflix don’t even have the rights to stream it in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Australia or New Zealand.

Novel writer Holly Jackson has said that she had to cram as much of her books into the first season because she didn’t know whether or not a second season would be commissioned. Because of that, there are many narrative seeds that lie open at the conclusion of the first batch of episodes.

Speaking with Deadline, Jackson noted, “Because we’re writing the TV show with all three books out and we know everything that happened, it means we get to do a lot more seeding off potential future stuff. We did get to do some fun mentions of things that will happen later.”

As for whether or not there would indeed be a second season, Jackson simply stated, “I don’t know yet, and then I don’t know that when I know, how long I’ll have to keep it secret for before it’s publicly announced. But I hope the gap between me finding out and everyone else being able to find out is not too big because I hate keeping secrets!”

Still, star Emma Myer is also hoping that there will be more episodes of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, admitting that she would love to tackle the rest of Jackson’s novel. So, with that in mind, don’t be too surprised if a second season of the show is announced in good time.

Whether it stays on Netflix or goes elsewhere, hopefully, there will be more episodes focusing on the investigations of Emma Myers’ Pip Fitz-Amobi.
