Meghan Markle smashes Netflix streaming record

The actor and American member of the British Royal Family Meghan Markle is part of a recently-smashed record on Netflix.

Shortly before Markle married into the Royal Family, wedding Prince Harry in 2018, the actor appeared in the legal drama Suits, which ran from 2011-2019. Appearing in the majority of the show’s episodes, Markle played paralegal Rachel Zane alongside the likes of Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Reginald Specter, Patrick J. Adams’ Michael James Ross and Rick Hoffman’s Louis Marlowe Litt.

Even though the show stopped airing four years ago, it was recently added to Netflix, encouraging thousands of fans to revisit the beloved show.

Its resurgence has been so significant that it has smashed the viewing records for an acquired show, with Suits clocking in over 3.1 billion minutes watched in a week.

This obliterates the previous record, which was held by the drama Manifest, which managed 2.5 billion minutes watched in a week.

Departing from the show in 2018 following her pregnancy, Markle spoke to the BBC at the time, stating: “I think what’s been really exciting ― as we talk about this as the transition out of my career ― is that the causes that have been very important to me, I can focus even more energy on…You realize that as you have access, or a voice that people are willing to listen to, [it comes with] a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously”.
