GLAAD, the leading global LGBTQ media advocacy organisation globally, has revealed the nominees for its 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards earlier today, with Netflix achieving 27 nominations.
This year, the awards features an impressive lineup of 310 nominees spread across 33 categories. Netflix leads the pack with the highest number of nominations, with ABC follows closely with ten nominations, while Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and CBS each earned nine, eight, and eight nominations, respectively.
GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis also recently accepted the Governor’s Award at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards for the organisation’s positive contributions to LGBTQ acceptance.
“The world urgently needs culture-changing stories about transgender people,” Ellis said. “More people say they have seen a ghost than know a trans person.
“When you don’t know people, it’s easy to demonise them,” she continued. “Visibility creates understanding and opens doors — it’s life-saving. Our community has achieved so much and yet, we are still being victimised and villainised with cruel and harmful lies. Sharing stories is the antidote.”
The 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are scheduled to be held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on March 14, 2024, and at the Hilton Midtown in New York City on May 11, 2024.
