In an exciting development, Netflix has inked a deal with Disney that promises to bring a treasure trove of beloved shows to the streaming giant between January 2024 and February 2025.
This collaboration marks a significant move, with over a dozen Disney-owned series set to arrive on Netflix, alongside the unveiling of the unified Disney/Hulu application in March 2024.
The partnership includes co-exclusive US streaming rights for a plethora of shows from Disney’s extensive library, as per Deadline. Among the highlights are some heavyweights that once graced Netflix but were later removed to become exclusive to Hulu or Disney+, such as the iconic Prison Break, which was a staple on Netflix US until its departure in October 2017, and Lost, which left the platform in January 2018.
Grey’s Anatomy, a streaming staple on Netflix for the past decade, is also set to transition to the new Disney application, incorporating both Disney+ and Hulu. This strategic move, once likened to “selling the enemy nukes” by Disney CEO Bob Iger, reflects Disney’s strategy to consolidate its streaming services and offer viewers a unified experience.
The lineup of Disney-owned shows making their way to Netflix is nothing short of spectacular. The journey begins with The Wonder Years on January 1st, 2024, followed by the emotional rollercoaster This is Us on January 8th, 2024. Other notable additions include My Wife & Kids, ESPN 30 for 30, The Resident, White Collar, Reba, Archer, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, Prison Break, The Hughleys, The Bernie Mac Show, and Home Improvement.
All these titles, originating from networks like Hulu, ABC, FX, Fox, or Freeform, are scheduled to grace Netflix screens over the next year or so. Viewers in the United States can relish these shows for 18 months before they are eventually removed.
