12 Margot Robbie films you can watch on Netflix

Margot Robbie is a talented performer. From her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street to her latest venture in Barbie, Robbie has relentlessly risen above being typecast and jumped from one scintillating performance to another.

She may not have received an Oscar nomination for ‘Best Actress’, but she is nominated (in her capacity as a producer), as is Greta Gerwig, because of Barbies nomination for ‘Best Picture’. Barbie is unlikely to bag the biggest win at the Academy Awards this year, with Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, and Past Lives up for contention, but that does not mean you cannot enjoy some of her best performances all this week.

There are 12 Robbie films you can stream on Netflix, and while most of them are available to stream in the US and UK, some may only be available in certain specific countries.

Robbie’s journey to stardom began with her role as Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. In this electrifying tale of excess and corruption, Robbie captivated audiences with her portrayal of a fiery and unapologetically crooked woman navigating the tumultuous world of fraud and finance alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort. Despite being a relative newcomer at the time, Robbie’s performance commanded attention and solidified her as a talent to watch.

However, it was her turn as Tonya Harding in I, Tonya that truly catapulted Robbie into the cinematic spotlight. In this darkly comedic biopic, Robbie transformed herself into the controversial figure skater, delivering a tour de force performance that earned her critical acclaim and her first Academy Award nomination. Robbie’s portrayal was a masterclass in empathy, humanising a figure often vilified by the media.

Robbie’s ability to seamlessly inhabit a wide range of characters is further evidenced in her roles in Quentin Tarantino’s revisionist Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the DC Comics adaptations The Suicide Squad and its spin-off Birds of Prey. In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Robbie portrays Sharon Tate with radiant warmth and vivacity, capturing the essence of the real-life actor whose life was tragically cut short by members of the Charles Manson cult.

Despite her undeniable talent, Robbie has acted in a fair share of disappointments in the form of box office and critical duds like Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, The Legend of Tarzan, and Focus. However, even in these less-than-stellar outings, Robbie’s performances have consistently been a bright spot.

Most recently, Robbie has garnered attention for Barbie, where she not only stars as the titular character but also serves as a producer alongside Gerwig. Barbie’s promotional campaign can be studied in marketing classes and shredded apart on forums that dissect the feminist ‘yassification’ of capitalist symbols such as Barbie dolls.

Nonetheless, Robbie’s involvement speaks to her ambition as both a performer and a creative force behind the scenes. With a career filled with standout performances and a future brimming with even more promise, she has solidified herself as one of the most versatile and sought-after performers in this generation.
