Seemingly undeterred by the falling stock prices of massive subscriber loss, Netflix is currently riding on the viewership high brought in by some of its fresh releases in June 2022, besides older titles. While they are stealthily laying off employees and cancelling productions to maintain a financial balance, this month seems quite profitable.
Every week we at Best of Netflix present the ten most popular series on the streamer across the globe, including new releases and old favourites that storm the charts and induce social media banter.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things is a nostalgic ode to the enigmatic eighties that involves the brilliant infusion of sci-fi elements, supernatural tropes and a mysterious adventure setting quintessential to Stephen King’s works.
The show released the first volume of the fourth season on May 27th, 2022. With seven episodes, the season was gory, dark and scarier than ever, taking place across three locations, Hawkins, California and Kamchatka. The second volume will premiere on July 1st, 2022, with two feature-length episodes.
The fourth season upholds the terrors of a harrowing monster named Vecna, who unleashes his wrath on Hawkins by preying on different lives. It stars the likes of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, and Maya Hawke, among others. The show has become a chart-topping global sensation with a record-breaking viewership time of 159 million hours this week.
