10 most popular films on Netflix this week: September 2022

Diving deep into the most popular films currently streaming on Netflix, there is a strong sense that the streaming platform is once again hitting its peak as it delivers reams of new content primed for awards season. Whether from Maya Hawke or Queen Latifah, the platform has a plethora of original content now dominating the charts. Let’s dive in and take a look at the most popular films on Netflix.

However, there is still only one movie Netflix’s audience seems intent on watching, and that is the leader of the chart this week, the Ludacris and Queen Latifah-led on-the-road thriller End of the Road. Billed as one of the year’s most exciting releases, Netflix’s audiences have watched the new project for over 27 million hours.

In truth, despite not taking the top spot, the real highlight of this week is the release of Maya Hawke and Camile Mendes’ modern adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s film Strangers on a Train — the dark comedy, and perfectly soundtracked, Do Revenge. The synopsis for the show reads: “After a clandestine run-in, Drea (Alpha, fallen it girl) and Eleanor (beta, new alt girl) team up to go after each other’s tormentors. Do Revenge is a subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.”

Hawke stars as Eleanor while Mendes takes on the role of Drea, each actor providing a candid starry-eyed performance that has left man weak at the knees. However, the film also has a number of great cameos from big names, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sophie Turner, Austin Abrams, Eliza Bennett, Alisha Boe, Talia Ryder and Paris Berelc.

There are three new additions to the chart as well as Do Revenge. There are two entries from classic movies, one dark and twisted thriller starring Elisabeth Moss, The Invisible Man, a depiction of Dolittle featuring Robert Downey Jr, and one far lighter affair featuring, well, pretty much everybody.

This is the End is a Hollywood satire that sees a group of actors facing the end of the world together. Busting with all-star cameos, the leaders of the movie, Seth Rogen and James Franco, help to deliver a laugh-a-minute comedy that is well worth your time.
