10 most popular films on Netflix this week: October 2022

Another week and another ream of new films have hit our favourite streaming platform. While all the talk around the brutal murderer Jeffrey Dahmer continues to dominate the chart for most popular series, the film arena is slightly more open. Below we’re bringing you the ten most popular films of the week.

There’s an interesting mix of titles on this week’s chart, but first thing’s first, sitting at the top of the charts this week, is the captivating thriller Luckiest Girl Alive starring Mila Kunis. Despite being regarded as another moment in which Netflix is capitalising on trauma, the movie has been well-recieved and has 57 million hours of viewing during its second week in the chart.

The film encompasses the life of TifAni FaNelli (Mila Kunis), who has it all. A life most would envy. One with a successful career as a journalist. She is a hardworking woman with a bright future ahead. And above it all, she has a rich fiance who is the personification of perfection. Unfortunately, perfection always comes at a cost.

Ani revisits her rather disturbing past when she visits her hometown. As a teenager, Ani was brutally assaulted and gang raped by a group of boys. Quite as the reflection of the society, we live in today, the community she comes from questions her narrative.

Elsewhere on the list of films, there is a smattering of spookiness coming to the fore. This week, the family-friendly horror The Curse of Bridge Hollowis second-placed on the chart, starring Damon Wayans and Kelly Rowland, which has gathered 25 million hours of viewing. The official synopsis for the film reads: “A man and his daughter must team up to save their town after an ancient and mischievous spirit causes Halloween decorations to come to life and wreak havoc.”

Another similarly tempered movie for spooky season is Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, which has another 20 million hours of viewing under its belt. However, if these are too scary for your little ones, may we direct you to the two animated feature son this week’s list, the quite brilliant Boss Baby from Dreamworks as well as the charmingly quaint Sing, which pitches a battle of the voices between a selection of wise-cracking animals.

Also on the chart is an all-action thriller from Nic Cage titled Running With the Devil. Starring alongside Lawrence Fishburne, the film is a perfect moment of no-holds-barred viewing for a weekend blockbuster.
