Here we are with another round of the most popular films on Netflix this week. For some time, the main focus for Netflix has been the emergence of Stranger Things and now, this week, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is topping the series’ charts. But what are the films that are making subscribers reach for their remotes? Below, we find out.
This week there is only one film that is grabbing everyone by the feels, Purple Hearts, which has been watched for over 100 million hours, is spending another week in the top ten, this time taking the top spot. The film follows a blossoming love story cut short by the trappings of war. It’s a classic love tale that is gathering pace as one of Netflix’s better releases this year.
Thankfully, The Gray Man has found a more comfortable position in the chart, taking the number two spot; it’s one of the better releases from Netflix in 2022. Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, the movie was always likely to be a big-budget blockbuster, but with nearly 40 million hours of viewing in its third week on the charts, things may be slowing down. The skinny on this film is that if you’re expecting anything other than witty remarks between gun battles and explosions, then you best move along.
There is also a double entry for Tom Holland in this week’s chart as both his turn as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home and as the lead in Uncharted have amassed 30 million hours of viewing, with the latter enjoying the majority of those figures in its first week on the streaming platform.
Elsewhere, there are new entries, including The Age of Adaline starring Blake Lively, the unfairly stacked cast of Tower Heist — featuring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, to name a few — and Will Smith’s Men in Black 3. The three new entries accrued just under 10 million hours of viewing each.
Of course, it will take more than that to shake Sea Beast, one of the best new animated movies going, and Sung 2, an equally silly cartoon, to be knocked out of the charts.
