The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: April 2023

Fingers crossed, the April showers are now behind us and as Stevie Wonder once said, “The rosebuds know to bloom in early May”. While the skies are always uncertain, one thing that is clear is that Netflix viewers are getting their money’s worth with the fine selection of films on offer on the streaming service.

This week, there is one clear winner when it comes to the most popular films. The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die has stormed to the top of the pile with 25million hours watched. The Netflix-produced 2023 movie has been directed by Edward Bazalgette and is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell.

In second place by some stretch with 14million hours viewed is Let Him Go, the 2020 neo-western movie with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner. Based on Larry Watson’s 2013 novel of the same name, the film tells of a retired town sheriff and his wife who try to rescue their grandson from a malicious living-off-grid family.

Just behind Let Him Go is A Tourist’s Guide to Love, with 13.5million hours viewed. The Netflix-produced rom-com stars Rachel Leigh Cook, Scott Ly, Missi Pyle and Ben Feldman, amongst others. Steven K. Tsuchida directs from a screenplay by Eirene Tran Donaghue.

Netflix fans are still lapping up the sequel Murder Mystery 2, which brings back Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston to the franchise. The film sees the reluctant detective couple travel to Paris to once again save the day and solve the big mysteries of the hour.

The rest of the top ten is rather varied. We’ve got the music documentary Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, the revival of the famous children’s TV show Power Rangers in Might Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, beloved animation Dr. Seuss; The Lorax and high-octane racing action in F9: The Fast Saga.
