The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: April 2022

Netflix is up there with some of the biggest streaming platforms in the world, so appearing on their top ten is an achievement in itself; from romance to sci-fi, we sum up what’s on top this week.

Coming in tenth place is the adorable adventure in A Dog’s Way Home. The story follows Bella, a little pit bull mix, who travels across America searching for her owner. The film, starring Shelby, the dog, has racked up 5.75 million hours this week, as fans worldwide chose to submerge themselves in this lovable quest.

Ninth place is less lovable; the crime thriller Cleaner, starring icon Samuel L. Jackson, has achieved the prestigious spot on the list as spectators follow the ex-cop who has taken up the job of crime scene cleaner. However, things take a turn when he finds himself in a cunning cover-up. The 2007 film hasn’t done the best on Rotten Tomatoes, but that hasn’t stopped fans around the globe from watching 6.7 million hours.

The list takes another turn as non-fiction appears on the list. The recently released Return To Space allows an insight into billionaire Elon Musk as he and his team of engineers attempt to return astronauts home from the International Space Station with his space programme SpaceX. The fascinating documentary-style film allows fans to see the futuristic life of the eccentric billionaire, one of the world’s wealthiest people.

From fascination to intensity, the list takes another turn for number seven. The Call puts the spectator in a 911 call between an operator and a soon-to-be victim of a serial killer. The film, starring Halle Berry, has clearly been popular with Netflix watchers, with the thriller being watched 7.71 million hours in total by spectators around the world.

In sixth place is How It Ends, an action thriller that follows a young lawyer who embarks on a dangerous road trip amid a cataclysm that threatens his pregnant fiance. The film, starring Theo James, has racked up over 8.6 million hours worldwide, making it clear that it’s popular among action devotees.

In the middle of the list is the coming-of-age comedy Metal Lords. The comedy, starring Jaeden Martell, shows teenage misfits attempting to make it big in the metal rock world. The 2022 film has been viewed for 8.7 million hours by fans worldwide, who have clearly enjoyed it based on the 6.8/10 stars on IMDb.

Coming in an impressive fourth place is The Adam Project, a clear favourite for fans based on the number of weeks the film has appeared. The sci-fi allows viewers to accompany movie star Ryan Renolds as Adam Reed as he goes on a mission with his 12-year-old self to save the world.

In third place is A Score to Settle, a thriller that observes Nicolas Cage as Frank, who is released from prison after being diagnosed with a fatal disease. Despite the somewhat depressing storyline, it appears to be a fan favourite, with it racking up an awe-inspiring 4/5 stars on Amazon Prime.

The runner-up this week is Choose or Die. The 2022 film submerges fans into a world in which two friends reboot an old 1980s video game in the hopes of winning unclaimed prize money, but things don’t quite go to plan when they find themselves in an entirely new world. The concept may be enjoyed by fans around the world, but critics don’t see the hype, with some calling it a “jumbled mess”.

The top film this week is, unsurprisingly, The In Between. The sci-fi romance puts the spectator in the shoes of a heartbroken teen whose boyfriend has died in an accident. Events take a turn; however, when it appears, he is calling from beyond the grave. The exceptionally popular film has been watched for over 35 million hours, cementing it in the film hall of fame.
